Why You Should Listen to Techno — It Might Save Your Mind

Science just gave us another reason to turn up the volume.
A new study from
Monash University found that listening to music can seriously boost brain health — and even lower the risk of dementia as we age.

The Science Behind the Sound

Researchers looked at data from over 10,000 Australians aged 70 and older who were part of the large ASPREE and ALSOP projects.
Everyone started with a healthy brain, and scientists tracked their habits and health over several years.

The result?
People who regularly listened to music were 39% less likely to develop dementia.
Those who played instruments had a 35% lower risk.
And the ones who did both — listening and playing — showed the strongest protection.

The researchers say it’s because music activates many areas of the brain: memory, attention, emotions, and coordination. Over time, that stimulation helps keep the brain stronger and more flexible.

What It Means for Ravers

If you love techno, raves, or festivals — you’re already doing something good for your mind.
Complex sounds, deep basslines, and constant rhythm changes in electronic music challenge your brain just like learning an instrument.

When you close your eyes during a drop and feel everything sync — that’s your brain working out.
Music doesn’t just make you feel alive; it might help you stay sharp for longer.

So, next time you dance until sunrise, remember:
You’re not wasting time — you’re investing in your brain.
